Subject: Transitions to sustainable development e-conference opens tomorrow - 25 August
The on-line "Transitions to Sustainable Development - Social scientists meeting the challenge" e-conference runs from 25 August - 8 September 2014. Registrations will remain open for participants to join throughout the conference and instructions can be found at http://esocsci.org.nz/networks/transitions-to-sustainable-development/e-conference/. Participation is free, and of course there are no travel costs!

This e-conference looks to build on the challenges set out through the key messages and recommendations suggested in the World Social Science Report 2013 summary, particularly in supporting the social sciences contribution to societal responses to environmental change and sustainable development.

CONFERENCE STRUCTURE

The e-conference will be run as a moderated online discussion. It will comprise 3 broad sessions for 4 days each, with a final wrap-up.

*   Session 1:    25 – 28 Aug:    What now – what are we (as social scientists) doing now?
*   Session 2:    29 Aug – 1 Sep:  So what – what impact are we having?
*   Session 3:    2 – 5 Sep:       What next – what still needs to be done?
*   Session 4:    6 – 8 Sep:       Roundup, final reflections and feedback

An opening think piece by Stewart Lockie has just been posted ahead of the conference opening tomorrow. This is titled, To boldly go … mobilising social sciences for transformational environmental change, and can be found at http://learningforsustainability.net/sparksforchange/lockie/

WHO FOR:

This e-conference is expected to have wide relevance - and will be of particular interest to social scientists and those who use and integrate social science, including research, community and sector leaders, indigenous groups, policy makers and R&D funders/donors. You will have to join the eSocSci and the TSD-network to take part. More information on the e-conference, and how to register can be found on theTSD-network e-conference registration page - http://esocsci.org.nz/networks/transitions-to-sustainable-development/e-conference/
