Subject: Two new publications on renewable energy policy in developing countries
Dear colleagues,

We would like to draw you attention to two new publications on renewable energy policies in developing countries.

In "The Effect of Local and Global Learning on the Cost of Renewable Energy in Developing Countries" (forthcoming in the Journal of Cleaner Production) we show how local supply chains and value-creation can reduce the long-term cost of renewable energy development.

You can download an unedited version of the paper here:
http://www.sustec.ethz.ch/people/HueJoe/Huenteler_et_al_Local_Global_Learning

Research highlights:
• Development of a techno-economic model of Thailand's Alternative Energy Development Plan 2012-2021
• Analysis of the impacts of local and global learning effects on mitigation cost
• Demonstration that the importance of global and local learning varies between clean technologies
• Finding that local learning is significant for wind, PV, biogas and micro-hydro, whereas global learning is important for PV and solar thermal
• Discussion of the future role of the international support for clean technologies

In "International Support for Feed-in Tariffs in Developing Countries–A Review and Analysis of Proposed Mechanisms" (forthcoming in Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews) we discuss different options to provide financial support for feed-in tariffs in developing countries.

You can download a preprint of the publication here:
http://www.sustec.ethz.ch/people/HueJoe/IntFITs

Research highlights:
• Review of proposals for international financial support for FITs in developing countries
• Classification of proposals according to proposed payment structure
• Analysis of cost uncertainty for international donors and national governments using Thailand's Alternative Energy Development Plan as a case study
• Cost uncertainty is driven by uncertain cost of avoided, fossil-fueled electricity
• One-size-fits-all approach will not be suitable for all donor-recipient combinations

Best regards,

Joern
