Forty-sixth meeting of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) Forum, 16th meeting of the Least Developed Countries Fund and the Special Climate Change Fund (LDCF/SCCF) Council, and 5th GEF Assembly

The Fifth Global Environment Facility (GEF) Assembly and associated meetings will be hosted by the GEF and the government of Mexico from 25-30 May, in Cancún, Mexico. The event will include the: 

  • Forty-sixth Meeting of the GEF Council (including the CSOs Forum and 16th meeting of the LDCF/SCCF Council): This meeting will take place from the 25-27 May 2014. The GEF Council meets twice a year to approve new projects with global environmental benefits in the GEF's focal areas, and to provide guidance to the GEF Secretariat and Agencies. The CSO Forum will take place on Tuesday, 27 May. The GEF Council meeting will include the 16th meeting of the LDCF/SCCF Council, which will be held on 27 May.
  • Fifth GEF Assembly: The Fifth GEF Assembly will convene from 28-29 May. The GEF's governing body, the Assembly meets every three to four years, and is responsible for reviewing and evaluating the GEF's general policies, the operation of the GEF, and its membership. The Fifth GEF Assembly will highlight and discuss the GEF 2020 strategy, mission and vision that will guide the GEF going forward. The Assembly will combine, plenary and high-level panels, exhibits, side events and GEF project site visits.

IISD RS will provide: daily web coverage (including photos and videos from selected side events) and daily reports of the 46th meeting of the GEF Council, as well as 750-word web summary of the CSOs Forum. In addition, IISD RS will provide daily web coverage and daily reports of the 5th GEF Assembly. A combined summary report of the GEF Council meeting and Assembly will be available on Monday, 2 June 2014. Kindly return to this site on Sunday, 25 May 2014, for more information.
