10_November 2014: The UN General Assembly (UNGA) elected Australia, Finland and Switzerland to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in a single secret ballot. The new members will fill the unexpired terms of office of Canada, Denmark and New Zealand. All will begin their terms of office on 1 January 2015, with Australia's term lasting one year, and Finland and Switzerland's term ending in two years, on 31 December 2016. continued...

7_November 2014: Participants from the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) region reviewed both achievements and challenges in implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, at a high-level Regional Review meeting on Beijing+20. Recommendations focused on: promoting labor market policies and laws on gender equality; women's equal representation in policy and decision-making; prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls; women's and girl's access to justice, including as a strategy to realize other rights; and implementation of all areas of the Beijing Declaration. continued...

10_November 2014: The UN University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS), Tokyo Institute of Technology, and the Earth System Governance Project have published POST2015/UNU-IAS Policy Brief #6, titled 'Ending the Double Burden of Malnutrition: Addressing the Food and Health Nexus in the Sustainable Development Goals.' The authors stress that improvement in economic conditions can lead to higher obesity risk, and suggest that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) address this by correlating targets and indicators, and delivery of educational programmes to increase health literacy globally. continued...
