Subject: How much wetland has the world really lost?
Although it has been widely claimed and reported that the world has lost 50% of its wetlands (or 50% since 1900 AD), these statements have not been supported by any clear evidence. A recently published paper on "How much wetland has the world lost? Long-term and recent trends in global wetland area" makes a first attempt, based on published reports of wetland area change, to assess the extent of wetland losses.

This paper can now be downloaded, free of charge, from: htttp://www.publish.csiro.au/paper/MF14173.htm
